    Another night...

We're still at the hospital with Josh.  His fever has been nearly gone since yesterday, but they still have him on oxygen and have given him a couple breathing treatments.  All of his tests have come back clear so far.  They're slowly lowering the amount of oxygen they are giving him, but they generally don't release kids until they've spent at least a full night without any oxygen at all.  His levels seem to be doing better this evening, so hopefully they can try to take it off tonight and see how he does... we're hoping we can finally get out of here tomorrow.

For me, my legs are feeling a lot better, but my arms and hands are still completely messed up.  I still have very little range of motion in them and almost no strength, and can't even fully clench my fists.  I'll be going to my regular doctor tomorrow to have him take a look at me.

Anyways, one more night at the hospital at least... we'll keep everyone updated!

    More updates...

Josh had a long night last night... we noticed yesterday that he seemed to be holding his breath from time to time, so they put an oxygen sensor on him.  Every now and then his oxygen levels seem to be dropping a bit, (which one of the doctors felt was normal for a newborn sometimes), but to be safe they put him on oxygen and ordered a chest X-ray.  He didn't sleep too well, and with the oxygen sensor warning going off and him fussing, neither did mom or me.  The X-ray seems to have come back clear, and they're still sticking with the virus prognosis.  They've taken some more blood to try to pinpoint what virus it is exactly.

I am feeling a bit better today in the hips and legs, but my arms and hands are just as bad, if not worse.  Typing is difficult, and small precise movements or gripping anything like a pen, or opening a Tylenol bottle or packet of Splenda are almost impossible for me.  Things like typing this blog post is a 'hunt and peck' thing for me when I'm normally 100wpm+.

Also, it looks like I may not be the only local celebrity with this problem.  My friend Kim brought it to my attention that Bert from the Bert Show (a local Atlanta morning show host) has been out all week with my exact symptoms.  (See his Facebook note about it here.)  So seeing others with this strange issue makes me feel a bit better, actually.  (It may be a coincidence, but the Q100 offices where Bert works are less than a mile from Northside Hospital and Children's... where I likely caught this bug.)

Anyways, thanks to everyone for the warm wishes and I'll keep everyone posted!

    Updates...

Mel and I are still at Children's Healthcare with Josh.  The blood and spinal tap are still coming back clean, and they've had him on antibiotics since we got here, but he still has a fever that bounces between 100 and 102.  They think it's likely a virus now, which means it'll just have to take it's course.  They'll keep him admitted until at least 12 hours after his fever breaks... so we may be here for a bit.  He's eating well, and sleeping most of the time, but just can't shake this fever.

In related news, I've had bad joint pain this week, and brushed it off to sleeping on the 'bench' of a bed they had at Northside.  I woke up yesterday with much worse pain, that's moved into my muscles.  Today it's been much worse, I could hardly walk without a limp, and am so weak that I can't barely open a soda, lift more than a few pounds, or even write.  It feels like I've been in a car wreck, or the feeling the day after a super intense work out with every muscle in my body.  I finally gave in and went to urgent care, and they took blood, which came back clean for diseases, but my white blood cell count shows I have some kind of infection as well.  We're thinking Josh and I may have the same thing.  They gave me a broad spectrum antibiotic shot in my hip, as well as a shot of Cortosone and steroids.  I took 4 Tynenol and the pain is much better, but the weakness is still there.  Right now we'll all just resting trying to get this to pass.

Vicki and my dad came down and are watching Katie, who is taking all this craziness very well. :)  Anyways, we'll keep everyone posted!

    Josh's First Hospital Visit...

At around 6am this morning, I wasn't feeling well, and Mel was feeding Josh, and noticed he felt warm.  She took his temperature, and it was 100.8.  She called the doctor's office, who told her to take him to the hospital.

She took him down to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and they've taken blood/spinal fluid samples, and are culturing them.  They have him on some antibiotics and they are checking him in for 48 hours.  The initial results are good.

I'm heading down to Children's, and Mel's mom is staying at our house with Katie.

    We'll keep everyone posted...
